Yeah it was like that…
After hanging tight but finally going down to Dirk and the Mavs in Game 1, how OKC would respond in Game 2 in Dallas would tell the world how real…or real fake…the Thunder are in their quest to win the NBA title now…not later. The jab step was a 106-100 victory to tie up the Western Conference Finals 1-1. Game 3 is Saturday in OKC.
Durant appeared to be on track for 50 early. He came out aggressive as if he thought Dirk was gonna get out fast…so he got out quicker. The the game was nip and tuck…nothing spectacular with the crowd beaming and Mike Breen screaming every time Dirk got close to the rock.
Then this happened…
Man…everyone of you thought Blake didn’t you? Don’t lie. The thing about this dunk was we had a full on view of the glass instead of that baseline fire, KD arm was up by the box. Good gosh young fella.
Back the game, James Harden is unstoppable anchoring the second team and the Thunder bench outscored the Mavs contingent 50-29. Harden had a Vinnie Johnson microwavable 23. You ever have one of those games where the dribble drive is off the universe and the jumper is like water? Yeah that was Harden. 4 point plays, dives on ground, pretty passes. He did it all and it took all the pressure off Durant to ease back off the throttle and save that 50 point shootout with Dirk for another game down the line.
Westbrook didn’t play horrible. He had 18 on 7-15 and yeah his 4 turnovers seemed to come at critical stretches but screaming on your coach is not gonna get it done on national television.
On his 4th quarter benching, Westbrook responded post game: “I know you all want to ask the same question and I’m going to give you all the same answer: We were winning.”
That’s that. He was hot and Cheeks had to physically walk down the bench and calm him down, but he’s a 22 year old kid. No harm no foul…but…what Westbrook has to understand now is that he’s expendable. Eric Maynor is a starting NBA lead guard. He makes great decisions and hits big shots…scoring 13 in Russell’s stead. Maynor has been impressive since he was at VCU and being groomed for the league by Anthony Grant…who is now at Alabama steaming in his pot for the March Madness slight.
Durant will be protected. Yeah he’s a little different than what the cameras portray (check the interview linked), but he’s not gonna go off on Westbrook during the game. It’s just not his style.
Better chill young fella or you’ll be playing in New Orleans traded for CP3 and a couple of fresh glazed NBA doughnuts. In fact, if I was OKC I just might do that. Maynor is the insurance policy if say Paul comes in and gets dinged up.
My bad…I was dreaming…talking aloud…as you were…
Dirk was held scoreless in the 3rd after having 13 up to that point…yet managed to toss in 16 in the 4th to finish with 29. He missed a critical free throw after being fouled behind the line by Collison late that stopped his playoff streak at 39.
Damn Mike Breen jinxed him talking about and I paraphrase…What a remarkable foul shooting display…
Tyson Chandler had 15 and 13 boards, J. J. Barea pick and rolled his way to 11.
