Ron Glover’s NFL Questions & Answers: Preseason Week 2

It took only a matter of seconds for Plaxico Burress to familiarize himself in the N.Y. Jets offensive scheme for 2012. Burress’ reception for 20 yards on the games first play was a clear indicator that this Jet was cleared and ready for takeoff. Burress would finish the game with 3 receptions for 66 yards including a touchdown in the Jets 27-7 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Welcome to this weeks NFL Q & A…

The time hasn’t come to start praying for miracles just yet — but the Philadelphia Eagles are still a work  in progress. It was only as bad as it looked in certain areas on last Thursday night as the Eagles first and second teams struggled against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The offensive line is wet paper bag weak and the linebacking corps is a young and inexperieced as I’ve ever seen here. Many are worried about Michael Vick’s three INTs in the game, my worry is that Vick looks to be a better tackler than Asante Samuel.

Has the Buffalo Bills Shawne Merriman returned to form? It looks like the light may have come back on for the linebacker known as “Lights Out”.  It’s been a rough stretch for Merriman who has dealt with everything from a League suspension for steroid use to numerous injuries. He signed with the Buffalo Bills in January and although he’s moved from beaches to snow banks it looks like Merriman is out to prove that his motor is more revved and better than before. There isn’t much to look forward to in Buffalo this season, but Merriman does make the defense worth watching.

Colts owner tweets about Brett Favre; please let him be kidding

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay Tweets: “Brad, I’m in Hattiesburg…is it right or left at the Firechief?” *GULP* I just did a Google search and there’s only one Hattieburg in the United  States…

How hot is the seat for Tom Coughlin in Gotham? They passed on bringing Plaxico Burress back, they lost Steve Smith to the hated Eagles and are currently at war with defensive end Osi Umenyiora. I won’t say that the seat is so much hot as is possibly tiring for Coughlin to sit by and deal with anymore of the headaches in the Giants organization.

Anyone that follows the site knows that I’ve been pulling for the Houston Texans to break into the post-season for two years now. Do they finally break through or should I look for some other team to jinx?

  1. Terrelle Pryor to the Raiders in the 3rd round.

  2. Miranda says:

I hope he establishes himself as the backup to Jason Campbell. I really do.

Does anyone else think its damn near satanic the way ESPN is about to sell a gazilion copies of its magazine by dedicating the whole edition to Mike Vick?

  3. Origin says:

    Great write up RG.

Miranda I hope the same for Pryor. On a side note where is all this talk about him lacking work ethic. His work ethic has never been a question the young man has always been known to work hard.

Now on Vick……… you said sista this is crazy. Typical ESPN they make money off of you on the way up and then on the way down. Except Vick they have made money off of him on the way up then down then back up again. I knew something had to be up because Cownerd I mean Cowherd hasn’t been able to keep Vick’s name out his mouth the last 2 weeks.

Leave it to old ESPN to hype something up so that they can then sell it. Not only that but they have article after article on their website about Vick. With ground breaking articles coming soon asking “Can Vick avoid going bust again” and my favorite “What if Vick were White”. I am still waiting for the article article “What if Big Ben were Black”.

I mean with ground breaking stuff like this who needs Frontline, 60 minutes or HBO real sports.

Oh and one more thing, look at some of these questions that ESPN had the nerve to ask some of the players in the NFL when it came to Vick.

“If Vick would have appeared in Maden whould that have been good or bad for the NFL”

“At one point Vick spent $30K a month to support friends and family. Is that common for NFL players?”

“How much do you lend to people each year?”

“If Vick were white would the public perception be the same?”

  4. Miranda says:

Origin, its absolutely symbolic of today’s media. A whole magazine dedicated to Vick….and you know they quadrupled the ad rates for this edition!

So it looks like Jordan Jefferson of LSU didn’t get the memo on how it works huh? Didn’t somebody tell him he’s a starting QB for a big name NCAA powerhouse and that means he’s a walking target?

  5. Origin says:

    Just a few points.

    1. Thank you Miranda for posting that article by Luke.

    2. Thank you uncle luke for calling those fools out in the media and thank you for saying what you said about the NCAA and HBCUs last week.

    3. Miranda I am sure Jordan Jefferson got the memo but he didn’t read the fine print. The original memo stated its o.k. to get in trouble (drinking, fights & etc.) if you are Blaine Gabbert or Stephen Garcia. But the fine print at the bottom said “if you are Cam Newton, Terrel Pryor or any other high profile QB of a darker hue then you better watch your back.”

    4. So let me get this straight Kerry (stay a backup) Collins signs a contract paying 4 mill this year?? And Mcnabb actually had to take a base salary of 5 mill with it possibly going to 7 mill with incentives.

    5. I love how everyone wants to skip over the racial element in this whole tattoo gate with Cam and big boss man Richardson.

  6. Ron Glover says:

Origin, I’m working on that now.

  7. Origin says:

    Thanks RG.

Now I done seen it all ESPN actually took a photo of Vick and photoshopped him to make him seem white!!

I mean really if this doesn’t prove ESPN is a joke nothing will…..and Toure should be ashamed of himself (I know ESPN put the photo up of Vick) with such a weak piece of writing.

Dang if he wanted to know how to write a real article he should have given RG, Mizzo, Okori or Modi a call.

  8. Miranda says:

Jerry Richardson is walking around with borrowed body parts his damn self while he tryna dictate no tattoos or piercings.

  9. des says:

Origin, Toure left his writing skills at Vibe magazine…

What if Michael Vick were white is like asking what if ESPN concentrated less on the ” E ” and more on the ” S ” ? Both are crazy hypothetical questions that can never be answered.

  10. sankofa says:

African people should know they are doing something right, when the establishment (read White supremacy) is throwing hate at you. Seems like they even have a few new knee-grows to bring out for their pic-a-nigger, hi-tech lynching of Michael Vick. This time it’s the new/old reliable need to shut the hell up, Kevin Durant, saying that Michael Vick is not a top five QB. Of course the justification trhe anti-Vick segment uses are (a) rings (b) passing yards. (c) the elusive form/mechanics.

According to the narrative the top QB in order are:
    (1) Tom Brady
    (2) Payton manning
    (3) Drew Breeze
    (4) Ben Roth (er him)
    (5) Phillip Rivers

And for some, the dude in Atlanta and the lesser Payton, lwould be in the mix ong before Michael Vick. Question? If any those cats in the alleged top 5, played for the Falcons when Vick was there, and with the same schemes and personnel he had. If any those cat, played for Philly last year, with the same schemes and play calling, would they be considered top flight QB’s?

What if Vick played for a owner and or coach/coordinator with intelligence and a desire to win? Now, I ‘m not saying that Vick should be parachuted into the number 1 spot, but the excuses seem to change as the narrative and the criteria change.

I mean just to talk about the first two (Payton and Brady)and we see how the criteria for “greatness” are laid out in a biased fashion. So how much more for Michael Vick, the “knee-grow that can’t seem to die”. The bull shit with the Panthers owner is just part of the early process of the niggerfication of Cam Newton, more to come no doubt.

And I have associates who swear that Tyrell Pryor is a “good athlete but not a good quarter back”. Yet some people insist that Tim Tebow is John Elway II… and Adrian McPherson is still a back up in the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.

Mental disorder or mental illness is a psychological or behavioral pattern generally associated with subjective distress or disability that occurs in an individual, and which is not a part of normal development or culture. Such a disorder may consist of a combination of affective, behavioral, cognitive and perceptual components.

Hmmm! This describes anti-African hatred in the west to a “T”.

  11. Ron Glover says:

Brother Sankofa I just finished a piece touching on Vick, Newton and Pryor, it’s a three-part series. I lead off with Pryor.

Glad to see you’re still reading us.

  12. sankofa says:

Always be reading, always be learning from TSF.

  13. Ron Glover says:

Thanks Bro and we’re still learning from you.

  14. Origin says:

@Miranda – Not only does Richardson have the nerve but to then announce that on TV. He would have never asked a golden boy QB that never. Not only that if Cam doesn’t have earings and tats at 21 what makes you think he would get them now. This young man’s image is very polished so all of a sudden he is going to be tatted down like Lil Wayne???

@Des – Toure is a bum……..then to try and save face with the article and say that it wasn’t his idea but ESPN to put Vick as a white person.

That clown needs to stick to focusing on music, he can’t be that slow to think that ESPN wasn’t going to throw some controversy in there.

Then to top it off ESPN with its ignorant self. The same network/website/radio station that make twitter comments breaking news hasn’t even addressed this whole white Vick nonsense.

@Sankofa – Well said brotha……….Durant needs to take heed and understand that he can easily become the next villain or the media’s next target.
