Notes from the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft on NBA TV – Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012: Jeremy Lin is in!

Do you remember that one time?

Jeremy Lin was added to market the game. There’s nothing else to it and honestly it’s good for his people in this undeniably myopic TV world. Props to the young fella for putting a charge in New York. The game itself is just a showcase to highlight young stars who are doing some things. I tell you what though…when we all look back on this game some time from now, one name will be a glaring omission…Nikola Vucevic of the Philadelphia 76′ers. Trust me on that.

TNT will have exclusive live coverage of the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, Feb. 24, at 9 p.m. (ET). Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will serve as team general managers. Kenny Smith will serve as the honorary commissioner of the game, while Steve Kerr and Mike Fratello serve as team coaches.

TNT will once again air exclusive live coverage of the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend from Orlando, Feb. 23-26.

Barkley on passing up on drafting New York Knicks sophomore Jeremy Lin to select Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Kyrie Irving: “It wasn’t very difficult [to pass on Jeremy Lin] to be honest because [Lin’s] only been playing for a week and it’s been a fantastic week. But Kyrie Irving is terrific and he’s going to hand it to [Lin] and if Ricky Rubio wants some…he can come get some too.”

NBA TV’s Matt Winer and Dennis Scott analyzed Team Shaq and Team Chuck

Scott on Charlotte Bobcats rookie and Team Chuck guard Kemba Walker: “[Walker] has proven he can score, he can set people up and hit big shots at the end of quarters. This is a perfect game for him.”

Scott on who he favors in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, Team Shaq or Team Chuck: “As I go through the [rosters], at first I thought Shaq had the upper hand but he has too many point guards. Shaq has more playmakers but Charles has more finishers…I think Charles may have the upper hand.”

They put Smith in it for a reason – I dont get how Smith gets to add two – I understand WHY… but I don’t think Lin should be. He’s played 6 games that were good and now he’s going to get put in front of some guys that have been playing one and a half seasons or half a season of good ball. I think it’s wrong to take this opportunity away from those consistent rookies and sophomores.

  2. Destiny says:

There’s too much offense, this team will crumble on the defensive side with the execption of Blake/Greg no depth of the bigmen TT is still fresh and recovering injuries
so Team Charles. (and I agree with Celeste re Lin..come onnn)…I get that NY is desperate and delighted and how it all plays out…but…..Floyd M. got it right.

As far as the dunk this year..zzzzzzzzzzzz….

“When you control a man’s thinking you do not have to worry about his actions. ”
    —–Carter G. Woodson

“If you can control a man’s thinking you do not have to worry about his action. When you determine what a man shall think you do not have to concern yourself about what he will do. If you make a man feel that he is inferior, you do not have to compel him to accept an inferior status, for he will seek it himself. If you make a man think that he is justly an outcast, you do not have to order him to the back door. He will go without being told; and if there is no back door, his very nature will demand one.”

? Carter G. Woodson, The Mis-Education of the Negro

Never did like this bitch ass whiner, who had more than enough opportunity to use his gift as a film maker and take it to Oscar micheaux proportion. But instead still begging massa for money to make his movies. I believe some knee-grows are called “conscious” only because they are physically awake.

If this All Star game shit down make the third eye respond then, I need to get back on the mother ship and bounce…’cause this ship called earth, be sinking and The Mis-Education of the Negro continues.

    Probable Starters:

    Team Shaq:
    Monroe
    Griffin
Fields (could be Morris but he has to play at the bench becayse they lack backup big men)
Lin (out of position, could be Kemba but Linsanity is not yet over)
    Rubio

    Team Chuck:
    Cousins
    Williams
    George
    Brooks
Irving (could be Wall because he was the last year’s R/S MVP but the Wizards have a bad record so far and Irving is the 1st overall pick this season + playing well)

    Advantages:

    Team Shaq:
If this team is a real NBA, they would be already competitive.

    Team Chuck:
This team has a great player position distribution

    Disadvantage:

    Team Shaq:
This team is overloaded with point guards with 5 players capable of playing the point guard spot.

    Team Chuck:
This team only has players with raw talent.

    Conclusion:
Since this is a draft, can they trade Brooks for Walker so they can insert Wall to the starting lineup as a combo guard. Therefore preventing jealousy.

My MSM filters are on, so the “coverage” is pretty muted. On a side note, I actually liked those NBA Open Court episodes…
