The Starting Five For Monday March 19, 2012: The Weekend Sports Recap

UNC's Kendall Marshall gets fouled Creighton's Ethan Wraggs and breaks a bone in his wrist on this play, putting the rest of his NCAA Tournament in doubt. UNC won 87-73.

After a  stunning Thursday and Friday to open the NCAA Tournament the Sweet 16 is finally set. The state of Ohio is well represented with four teams remaining in the tournament (Cincinnati, Ohio, Ohio State and Xavier). The Big East Conference is sending four teams to the Sweet 16 as well (Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette and Syracuse). N.C. State and Ohio University are still wearing glass slippers

My hope is that Cincinnati and Xavier are commended for their display of character and will to reach the field of sixteen as much as they were scrutinized for their brawl earlier this season. It is unknown how long top seeded North Carolina may be without starting point guard Kendall Marshall who suffered a wrist injury in yesterday’s victory over Creighton.

Dwayne Wade poured in 14 of his 31 points in the final period as the Miami Heat held off the Orlando Magic 91-81. In other games of note, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 54 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder handled the Portland Trailblazers 111-95. Paul Milsap led the visiting Utah Jazz with 24 points as they stunned the Los Angeles Lakers 103-99 despite 33 points and 11 rebounds from Andrew Bynum.

After signing free agent wide receivers Randy Moss and Mario Manningham, could it be possible that the San Francisco 49’ers will be without Alex Smith and Peyton Manning? It has been reported that last year’s starter Alex Smith met with Miami Dolphin officials over the weekend. Peyton Manning, who met with 49’ers team officials last week has also met with the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos. Manning is said to have a decision on where he will play early this week.

  2. Ron Glover says:

With some of the moves being made by the teams in the running for Manning, someone is going to come away disappointed.

    RG, MT-

It looks like the QB that couldn’t throw for 50% for the season out in Denver might be the one who might be most disappointed…..

  4. Yup ks. John Elway screamed damn that Tebow feller. Peyton fell into his lap like a mug. Elway’s hands were tied but not any longer…
