The Starting Five Celebrates “The Captain”

Today, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor), the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and arguably the greatest center that ever lived turns 65.

Outside of basketball, Jabbar was at the forefront of many social and political movements in the 1960’s and 1970’s, unafraid to speak out injustices around the world serving as a mentor to athletes, celebrities and people worldwide. His conversion to Islam came at a time were Black athletes were becoming more self-conscious and expressing that in forms such as this. Jabbar lost many friends in that moment but gained the admiration and respect of millions.

Here is my video tribute to the Captain.

    The Sky-Hook…’nuff said!

In a sad commentary on the way the pro game is officiated today, the sky hook would be an offensive foul, considering how Kareem used his left arm to shield the defender. Yikes!
