TSF Tip-Off for 6/1/12 (featuring Eric B. & Rakim): On his way to UCLA Justin Combs meets the real player haters

No SC for dis’ youngsta’

Justin Combs, son of Hip-Hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has become the subject of a discussion among parents who feel that he should forgo his football scholarship to UCLA because of his father’s wealth.

According to Forbes Magazine, Combs is reportedly worth $550 million.

UCLA officials have backed Combs, a three-star recruit by stating that athletic scholarships are awarded strictly on a students academic and athletic merit, not on financial status.

I’m sure in the years and decades that have passed since Blacks were allowed to enroll at UCLA and other schools across the country this has been an ongoing issue with  the children of celebrities, sports stars and even Presidents.

But we never heard anything until the Black son of a Black entrepreneur is the subject.

In the end it’s all about Justin Combs, who was awarded a football scholarship on his own steam, not on the name of his father who is more than capable of sending him to any school in the country- let alone world.

Sorry for the thread-jack, but i just heard that Orlando Woolridge has died from a heart ailment.

  2. Miranda says:

There was no discussion that Joe Montana or Howie Long’s sons needed to forgo their scholarships since their dads could obviously afford the tuition.

This needs to be pointed out ad nauseum to the idiots that conveniently believe Justin Combs is the only individual with a wealthy parent that has received and accepted a full scholarship.

  3. Thank you Miranda. Damn.

  4. CDF says:

Yeah, there are plenty of “old monied interests” with kids that got all sorts of perks without earning them. I’m sure the Diddy name can generate 2-3X the scholarship worth…O_o
