On Tuesday an airplane banner flew over Beaver Stadium where the statue of Joe Paterno now stands. The banner simply read: “Take down the statue or we will.” Since the revelation of Paterno’s involvement in the sexual abuse scandal there has been heated discussion as to whether the statue should be removed.

Almost on cue, a group of Penn State students have formed a nightly vigil to protect the statue from vandals. While they continue to hide from the truth.

I don’t see the benefit of any student risking an arrest or worse for protecting the statue of Joe Paterno from vandals or school officials. A decision on the statue’s fate will be determined in the next 7-10 days. The students have pitched tents accompanied by a sign that reads: Protect The Paterno Statue”. The statue has been allegedly receiving threats from around the country.

Many of Paterno’s supporters have already forgotten about his knowledge of Jerry Sandusky’s child molesting. Instead they point to his 61 seasons at State College and his committment to the Penn State family.

Kevin Berkon, from Arlington, VA. stands by Paterno and is one of about 12 people keeping an indefinite vigil.

“I believe firmly in Joe Paterno and everything he stood for,” Berkon told USA Today. ”I find it terrible people are trying to tear him down. He should be innocent until proven guilty.”

I have observed many whites who are quick to point out good deeds while seeking forgiveness for one of their own, but refuse to give any one from another race the slightest benefit of the doubt. Regardless of the transgression.

The real causes in this world are living and breathing.
