Los Angeles Lakers fire head coach Mike Brown after 1-4 start

Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Mike Brown

Did Mike Brown need more time for Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard and others to jell?

This summer the Los Angeles Lakers placed their cards on the table citing another run at NBA supremacy. Troubled by a rough start to begin the season, team officials decided it was time for a change just five games into the season.

This morning the team fired coach Mike Brown.

Did Kobe’s stare doom Mike Brown?

Did the Lakers overreact in their decision to replace Mike Brown just five games into the season?

Brown was in his second season with the team. The Lakers were 41-25 in Brown’s first season, losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round of the playoffs.

The team had trouble picking up the Princeton offense Brown implemented. The team also struggled defensively.

Assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff will serve as the interim coach. But a short list of long-term candidates could include Jerry Sloan, Mike D’Antoni, Nate McMillian and Phil Jackson.

the team could have fired mike brown with a little more style and by the looks of the team someone told the general manager to fire mike brown. its not the firing of mike brown its the the way they did it. i just hope that the lakers did not jinx them selves because that was kind of messed up the way the bus family fired that man. if kyobi had anything to do with mike brown losing his job it will come back and bite him in his ass you can belive that.

consensus seems D’Antoni as front runner replacement!

Phew! that’s another disaster shaping up…and quick firing.

Jerry Sloan is too old now.

and Jackson…. if he comes back… just for this year.

Brian Shaw seems the right fit but that is not a very good Lakers team there..thin on the bench.

The Lakers wont win this team this year either!

LOL @the so-called death stare! It looks rather quicker than I expected (20 games?). I doubt Phil would be anything other than advisor at this point. I’d also expect Sloan over D’Antoni. I say give Shaw a chance…:/

Imagine people were saying that Lebron was the worst thing to happen to Mike Brown. How do you explain Kobe, a seasoned vet who still acts like he is the defacto coach?

@ch555x and mapoui…the fact that these idiots are pulling sloan (who I think is a good coach), Jackson, (no D) Antoni and Bernnie Bickerstaff, out of the old boys coaching hat is indicative of their disconnect. Brian Shaw should have had a coaching gig along time ago, in fact how much ass kissing and clipboard carrying can one do before one get’s a job in the association?

Wow!! Give the guy a little time. Geeze!!

I wish the Lakers had hired B. Shaw last year (full disclosure I’m a Laker fan). I never thought much of Mike Brown. I always liked Paul Silas…..Nate McMillan deserves a shot too.

  8. mapoui says:

    Well its D’Antoni.

    seriously! 4 years apparently. Phew!

    Brilliant choice?

or soon enough it proves there really is..or has been for some time now ..a screw loose in collective Laker ownership/management
