Tip-Off for 3/11/12 (featuring The Roots and Betty Wright): LA Lakers handle Chicago Bulls 90-81 to claim 8th seed in the West


The Lakers are playing above .500 as they have possession of the 8th seed.

It’s been a long season for the Los Angeles Lakers — a coaching change, injuries and internal strife have all had their place with the purple and gold this season.

Thing are finally looking up for the Lakers. With their 90-81 victory over the Chicago Bulls, the Lakers claimed possession of the eighth seed in the Western Conference. The win also placed Los Angeles two games above .500 for the first time this season.

Thunder 91 – Celtics 79 – The Celtics were able to hang with the Thunder until the fourth quarter when they were outscored 23-14. Kevin Durant finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Paul Pierce led the C’s with 20 points and 6 assists.

Lakers 90 – Bulls 91 – Dwight Howard finished with 16 points and grabbed a game-high 21 boards. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 19 points and 9 assists.

Raptors 100 – Cavaliers 96 – The slipping Raptors have only their third win in the last ten games. Alan Anderson led Toronto with 16 points and Amir Johnson pulled down 18 boards. Nate Robinson led the Bulls with 19 points and Joakim Noah grabbed 19 rebounds.

Magic 99 – 76ers 91 – The Magic defeated the 76ers for the second time in 10 days. Jameer Nelson led Orlando with 24 points and Nikola Vucevic grabbed 17 rebounds. Thaddeus Young led Philly with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Heat 105 – Pacers 91 – The Heat built an early lead and never took their foot off the gas. Mario Chalmers scored 22 points for the Heat, including 5 three pointers. LeBron James finished with 13 points as Miami won their 18th game in a row. David West led Indiana with 24 points.

Hornets 98 – Trail Blazers 96 – New Orleans continues to play well, defeating the inconsistent Blazers. Greivis Vasquez led New Orleans with 20 points. Wesley Matthews led Portland with 24 points.

Mavericks 101 – T-Wolves 77 – The Mavericks have won three games in a row — led by Vince Carter’s 22 points. Elton Brand pulled down 12 rebounds. Derrick Williams led the Timberwolves with 18 points and 9 assists.

Bucks 115 – Kings 113 – The Kings rally was too late as they outscored the Bucks 63-54 in the second half. Monta Ellis led Milwaukee with 29 points and 9 assists. DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with 24 points and 10 boards.

Clippers 127 – Pistons 97 – Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Paul finished with 14 assists, one with was an alley-oop to DeAndre Jordan — who finished with a monstrous dunk over Brandon Knight. Jose Calderon led Detroit with 18 points.
