Ron Glover’s NFL Week 1 recap: Anquan Boldin leads monster day for receivers in Niners victory

(Dan Honda/Bay Area News Group)

Anquan Boldin opened the 2013 season in playoff form against the Packers.

Anquan Boldin, A.J. Green, Demaryius Thomas and Vincent Jackson each had 150+ receiving yards in their respective season debuts. In Week 1, 17 players had days of 100+ receiving yards thus far. Two more games are on the schedule tonight.

Boldin finished with 13 receptions for 208 yards and a touchdown as the San Francisco 49ers rallied late to defeat the Green Bay Packers 34-28.

Broncos 49 – Ravens 27 – Peyton Manning may have stamped his claim as the greatest regular season quarterback ever.

Dolphins 23 – Browns 10 – Ryan Tannehill has more weapons this season and it showed in his 272 yard performance.

Lions 34 – Vikings 24 – Adrian Peterson’s first rush of the season went for a 78-yard score — the Vikings lone highlight. Reggie Bush had 4 receptions for 101 yards.

Colts 21 – Raiders 17 – Andrew Luck has eight fourth quarter comebacks already. His 19-yard scamper with 5:20 remaining gave the Colts the lead for good. Not a bad debut for Terrelle Pryor — who was 19-29 for 217 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed for 112 yards on 13 carries.

Chiefs 28 – Jaguars 2 – Andy Reid’s debut as coach of the Chiefs was a good one. Next weekend they host the Cowboys.

Jets 18 – Buccaneers 17 – Geno Smith isn’t half as bad as people claim he is. Yesterday will be one he and the Jets can grow on.

Saints 23 – Falcons 17 – The Saints Revenge Run opened in grand style yesterday. Drew Brees has 5,000+ passing yards in his sights once again.

Titans 16 – Steelers 9 – It was all down hill for the Steelers when center Maurkice Pouncey went down with a season-ending knee injury. The Titans new look defense tallied five sacks.

Bears 24 – Bengals 21 – The Bengals blew a 21-17 fourth quarter lead, ruining the 9 reception 162 yard and 2 touchdown effort by receiver A.J. Green. The Bears defense forced three turnovers.

Seahawks 12 – Panthers 7 – The Panthers defense did everything right before Russell Wilson hit Jermaine Kearse for a 43-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Patriots 23 – Bills 21 – The Bills picked the right player in E.J. Manuel. It took a late Stephen Gostkowski field goal to give the Patriots the victory. Name a Pats receiver other than Danny Amendola.

Niners 34 – Packers 28 – The Niners threw the Packers defense a curve ball with their game planning. Anquan Boldin was stellar. Colin Kaepernick has Jim Harbaugh looking like a genius.

Rams 27 – Cardinals 24 – Carson Palmer looked good and Sam Bradford has found his man in tight end Jared Cook. The AFC West is going to be fun to watch.

Cowboys 36 – Giants 31 – We may not see Giants running back David Wilson for a couple of weeks after losing two fumbles. Dez Bryant’s ankle is a huge concern for the Cowboys. Victor Cruz is worth every dollar.

Tonight: Eagles at Redskins 7:10 pm, Chargers at Texans 10:20 pm

  1. mapoui says:

meantime Greg Schiano’s demolition of his own QB, Freeman, is almost complete

  2. mapoui says:

Schiano seems obsessed with Freeman..bent on getting rid of him as soon as he can.

it does not look like Schiano will be ready to play until Freeman is gone.

interesting. in this case Schiano should be fired immediately. he is the problem not the QB.

will race play out on the side of the coach!?
