Tim Tebow Is Resurrected, Set To Sign With the Philadelphia Eagles

Just when you thought Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was through tugging on the brittle psyche of his team’s fan base, he does the unthinkable and brings Tim Tebow back to the NFL after nearly three seasons on the shelf.

The team is ready to sign Tebow to a one-year deal on Monday according to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer who broke the story.

Well there are two things we will most certainly know if the Philadelphia Eagles sign Tim Tebow:

1. Head coach Chip Kelly realizes the price is too high to move up and draft Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariotta — who played under Kelly at Oregon.

2This is undoubtedly Chip Kelly’s team.

Since being handed the keys to player personnel, Chip Kelly has changed the roster and culture of the Eagles with swift intent on making the team his own. Kelly stunned the NFL on March 4th when he traded Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso.

Less than a week later, Kelly traded quarterback Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams for quarterback Sam Bradford, who has spent the better part of two seasons recovering from separate knee injuries.

Just two days later, the team signed the NFL’s leading rusher DeMarco Murray to a five-year $42 million deal.

In the midst of these baffling trades and signings, the team cut offensive lineman Todd Herremans and allowed last season’s leading receiver Jeremy Maclin to reunite with former head coach Andy Reid in Kansas City.

The Philadelphia Eagles hold the 20th overall pick in the NFL Draft on April 30th, with the signing of Tebow it looks like the Eagles could draft Alabama strong safety Landon Collins to pair with free safety Malcolm Jenkins and newly signed free agent cornerback Byron Maxwell.

Losing Maclin to the Chiefs gives Kelly the opportunity to draft a receiver to team with last season’s rookie sensation Jordan Matthews and veteran Riley Cooper. A player linked to the Eagles on draft day has been Missouri standout Dorial Green-Beckham — who at 6’6″ gives the team another red zone threat to go with the short yardage power of Murray.

I don’t know what Tebow has left, but according to reports Kelly was convinced there is something worth looking at after speaking with his (Tebow’s) camp.

The Eagles QB depth chart has Matt Barkley, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and now Tim Tebow. The math here is simple: Sam Bradford is being paid $13 million this season, Mark Sanchez kept the Birds in the playoff hunt when Nick Foles went down and Tim Tebow is obviously a player Kelly has coveted for some time.

So long Matt Barkley.
