Don’t talk smack J.R. when Kobe is on fire and your team is getting blown out

Los Angeles 122, Denver 107

Lakers lead Denver 2-0

Kobe Bryant was one point away from becoming just the fourth player in NBA history with a 50 point/10 assist game–a feat I call the +70. LeBron James had one this year against the Knicks, Stephon Marbury did it with the Suns and then you have to go back to 1975 when Kareem Abdul Jabbar accomplished the feat with 50 points/15 boards/11 assists.

Notes from the TNT NBA Playoffs Conference Call

TNT tips off its “40 Games in 40 Nights” of NBA Playoff coverage on Sunday, April 20 with a first-round tripleheader (times TBD).

I got a chance to be a part of this call today with a lot of NBA beat writers across the country. I really appreciated Reggie and Charles’ honesty on some subjects. Can’t wait till Sunday.

Participants:

Charles Barkley – TNT NBA studio analyst

Reggie Miller – TNT NBA analyst

Jeff Behnke – Turner Sports executive producer

Sixers Break Out In Transition

Click on the pic to access my piece on SLAM. I get up with many of the Sixers and also some of the Spurs who were in town Saturday. I also voice my displeasure with Tim Duncan. Check it out. I’ll be covering Allen Iverson’s initial return to Philly which should be posted Thursday morning. I can’t wait to see the crowd reaction. Should be historic along the lines of Charles Barkley’s return. The irony of the whole situation is that the Sixers might make the playoffs while the Nuggets watch. Interesting…
