After going 12-4 last week, things get a little tougher in week 3. One game that has my interest is Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay. Both teams are 2-0, which we expected  from the Steelers, but the Bucs are reminding many of the upstart Bucs that blossomed under Tony Dungy. A young vibrant defense and a unheralded leader in quarterback Josh Freeman has things looking up in Tampa.

JaMarcus Russell Arrested for Possession of Codeine Syrup

Posted in JaMarcus Russell, Oakland Raiders on July 6th, 2010 by Ron Glover

Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was arrested today at his home in Mobile, Alabama for possession of codeine syrup – a controlled substance. Russell was arrested as part of an undercover narcotics investigation. Mobile County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lori Myles would not say what led to the arrest – she did state however, that Russell did not have a prescription for the medication.

“Syrup”  is underground compared to other to high profile drugs but is one of the most prevalent. Viewed as an easy and inexpensive get high – when used carelessly can have sometimes fatal results (I lost a high school buddy to it).  Sometimes it’s taken with a Valium or Xanax and called “Pancakes and Syrup”.

Prior to his arrest, one thing that could be said for Russell was that his issues were only on the field – that’s definitely changed after today.

Russell is due in court July 20.

The 2008 NFL Draft is once again approaching and for the second time in three years, there isn’t a consensus #1 pick. This year the Miami Dolphins hold the first choice after finishing the 2007 campaign with a 1-15 mark. The ‘Fins are in need of help just about everywhere starting at quarterback. With the future of defensive end Jason Taylor up in the air, incoming GM Bill Parcells has his work cut out for him.

For the next 12 days leading up to the Draft, yours truly will pick the first round according to team needs and potential. The Miami Dolphins are on the clock…
