Friday Fire: Who’s Under More Pressure To Win Sunday – Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick?

Posted in Donovan McNabb, Michael Turner, Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Eagles fans, Race and Michael Vick, race and quarterbacks, Race and Sports, Race and Sports Culture, Race in Sports on October 1st, 2010 by Ron Glover

Sunday’s contest between the Philadelphia and Washington Redskins will answer many questions concerning both teams and both quarterbacks. For Donovan McNabb, it’s his first in Philadelphia as a visitor, how will handle the crowd and his emotions to do well. For Michael Vick, he’s in a game that the Eagles want to win because it is afterall the Redskins and it’s McNabb. But more importantly for Vick it’s another turn on Redemption Road. This week it’s a Redskins defense that employs the 3-4 scheme.

Who is facing the most pressure heading into Sunday?

After going 12-4 last week, things get a little tougher in week 3. One game that has my interest is Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay. Both teams are 2-0, which we expected  from the Steelers, but the Bucs are reminding many of the upstart Bucs that blossomed under Tony Dungy. A young vibrant defense and a unheralded leader in quarterback Josh Freeman has things looking up in Tampa.

Why Not Michael Vick?

Michael Vick Michael Vick #7 of the Philadelphia Eagles warms up before a game against the Green Bay Packers during the NFL season opener at Lincoln Financial Field on September 12, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Michael Vick Project in Philadelphia has ended – The Michael Vick Experience looks like it may be up and running again (for a limited time only). Andy Reid is faced with his second biggest decision as head coach, while the Donovan McNabb trade will be questioned for the forseeable future, failure to nip this brewing quarterback controversy in the bud could cost Reid more than a few games.

Since the departure of Terrell Owens, the Philadelphia Eagles have been in search of a primary receiving target with the ability and intangibles that Owens brought to the Birds back in 2004.

For now, the Eagles are working with vitually two secondary receivers; Reggie Brown doubles on the slot and outside, while Kevin Curtis is the deep ball burner. The third spot seems to be up for grabs for Greg Lewis, Jason Avant and Hank Baskett, or could the rook DeSean Jackson shake up the depth chart. Read more »
